Overview

Meissen porcelain is the first successfully produced hard-paste porcelain in Europe, developed in the early 18th century in Saxony.[1]

History

The development of Meissen porcelain began under the patronage of Augustus II the Strong in the early 1700s.[2]

Materials and Techniques

Meissen porcelain is produced from kaolin, feldspar, and quartz, and fired at temperatures exceeding 1300°C.

Cultural Significance

It marked Europe's independence from imported Asian porcelain and influenced ceramic production across the continent.
